چکیده

Scatter search [9, 10] is an evolutionary approach related to the tabu search metaheuristic [8]. It is based on strategies proposed in the 1960s for combining decision rules and constraints. This approach has only been applied recently to a few optimization problems. Applications of this method include, for instance, vehicle routing [20] and unconstrained optimization [17]; see also [9] for more references. Like other population-based methods, scatter search uses combination of configurations to generate new configurations which can replace others in the population. But the way combinations and replacements are made differs from the traditional strategies used in pure genetic algorithms. Combinations operate on multiple parents, and replacements rely not only on the improvement of an objective function but also on the improvement of the population diversity. Furthermore, scatter search works with a small set of configurations, usually less than twenty, and uses deterministic heuristics as much as possible in place of randomization to make a decision.

A new Simulated Annealing algorithm for the robust coloring problem

The Robust Coloring Problem (RCP) is a generalization of the well-known Graph Coloring Problem where we seek for a solution that remains valid when extra edges are added. The RCP is used in scheduling of events with possible last-minute changes and study frequency assignments of the electromagnetic spectrum. This problem has been proved as NP-hard and in instances larger than 30 vertices, meta-...

Parallel Jobs Scheduling with a Specific Due Date: Asemi-definite Relaxation-based Algorithm

This paper considers a different version of the parallel machines scheduling problem in which the parallel jobs simultaneously requirea pre-specifiedjob-dependent number of machines when being processed. This relaxation departs from one of the classic scheduling assumptions. While the analytical conditions can be easily statedfor some simple models, a graph model approach is required when confli...

A practical algorithm for [r, s, t]-coloring of graph

Coloring graphs is one of important and frequently used topics in diverse sciences. In the majority of the articles, it is intended to find a proper bound for vertex coloring, edge coloring or total coloring in the graph. Although it is important to find a proper algorithm for graph coloring, it is hard and time-consuming too. In this paper, a new algorithm for vertex coloring, edge coloring an...

An Experimental Investigation of Iterated Local Search for Coloring Graphs

Graph coloring is a well known problem from graph theory that, when attacking it with local search algorithms, is typically treated as a series of constraint satisfaction problems: for a given number of colors one has to find a feasible coloring; once such a coloring is found, the number of colors is decreased and the local search starts again. Here we explore the application of Iterated Local ...
